Police shoot another pit bull

DANVILLE, Va. - A Danville police officer shot and killed a pit bull on White Street on Friday afternoon after police and animal control authorities said it was behaving aggressively toward its caretaker and them.
The article goes on to say:
Police said the dog was on a 20- to 30-foot chain. . .
As well as:

Dean said the dog was thin and had no doghouse.
Which is another example of bad owners chaining up their dogs and neglecting them to the point where they become aggressive.

The article also points out that:

During a phone interview Friday afternoon, Dean stressed the importance of people properly caring for their dogs. If they don’t receive adequate care, they can become frustrated and aggressive, she said.
. . .

Dean added that not all pit bulls are dangerous, and that she did not want citizens to have that impression. She cited one recent incident in which she believes a person might have poisoned a neighbor’s pit bull.

She said anyone who is having problems with a pit bull should contact police or the humane society and not try to take the matter into their own hands.

“We can’t let this turn into a mob-type mentality where people are afraid of every pit bull,” Dean said.
